On the north bank of the Rio de la Plata is the city of Colonia del Sacramento, the capital of Colonia. It was Admiral Manuel Lobo, then governor of Rio de Janeiro, who founded 1680 Colonia do Sacramento. A typical Portuguese city of the XVII century which today charms thousands of tourists worldwide for its well-preserved architectural heritage.
This beautiful city can be visited at any time of year, because it a temperate climate prevails. In summer, average temperatures range between 22 and 30; During the winter, temperatures drop to 5 C. The beautiful layout of Colonia contrasts sharply with architectural plans that share all cities of Spanish origin. Precisely because of its unique architecture, was declared a World Heritage Site. Located 177 kilometers from Montevideo, Colonia borders with the department of San Jose, on the north by Soriano, the south has a long coastline on the River Plate and northwest a section on the Uruguay River.
